The BRTS (Bus Rapid Transit System) Cell of the Silvassa Municipal Corporation is responsible for the development and implementation of a high-quality, efficient, and reliable public transportation system. The objective of the BRTS Cell is to provide fast, affordable, and eco-friendly mass transit services that reduce congestion, promote sustainability, and improve urban mobility.
Key Responsibilities:
- Planning & Development: Designing dedicated BRT corridors, stations, and routes for optimized connectivity across the city.
- Implementation & Monitoring: Executing BRTS projects, ensuring quality control, and monitoring system performance.
- Integration with Other Modes: Coordinating with other transport modes (rickshaws, private buses, cycling, etc.) for last-mile connectivity.
- Smart Ticketing & Technology: Adoption of intelligent transport systems (ITS), electronic ticketing, real-time bus tracking, and mobile applications.
- Public Awareness & Accessibility: Promoting the use of public transport and ensuring infrastructure is accessible to all, including differently-abled and elderly citizens.
Current & Upcoming Initiatives:
- Feasibility studies and DPRs for BRTS corridors in Silvassa and adjoining areas
- Pilot routes with eco-friendly electric buses
- Development of modern BRTS stations with real-time information systems
